Externships
Sonora Veterinary Specialists offers year around externship
blocks for veterinary students. Extern rotations can vary in length according to the needs of the student, but we encourage
a minimum stay of 3 weeks to gain maximum value from the experience. Students can choose their service rotations according to their interests. Visiting students are treated similar to interns and are expected to actively participate in case management and didactic activities. Visiting students should expect extended working hours and be prepared for a busy caseload.
For an enthusiastic,  motivated person our externship can be an enjoyable and enriching experience. Students at any year in their
curriculum and from any school are encouraged to apply.

Internships
Sonora Veterinary Specialists' AAVC internship program, established in 1993, offers an outstanding opportunity to gain practical experience in a busy multi-specialty referral practice, and participate in an academic environment as preparation for advanced residency training. During the 12-month internship period, candidates will rotate through surgery, medicine, neurology, oncology, and dermatology services. This program also includes participation in critical-care case management at the base hospital, and emergency duty at the surrounding Metropolital
emergency clinics. An outrotation
with board certified pathologists/clinical
pathologists at a diagnostic laboratory
is recommended for experience in clinical
pathology & histopathology.  Opportunity
to work at a practice devoted to exotic
animal medicine and surgery, and at the
Southwest Wildlife Rehabilitation Center is also available.
